Consider This | While Waiting | Be Still

Cedar Point

Be still before the LORD…wait patiently for him; do not fret when people…carry out wicked schemes. Psalm 37:7

“Be still!” Cara hissed at her toddler. “It’s not time to go yet.” Kaylie twisted around until she had slid off her mother’s lap and melted into a puddle on the floor.  “I wanna go,” she wailed. “They got to go.” She pointed at the departing backs of her friends’ parents. Cara shook her head. “It doesn’t matter what they do. They’re not going where we are going. Now, I’ve given you everything you need. Here’s your water and some fishy crackers. There’s your toy. Now, be still and wait for me.”

“Be still,” God says. “Wait for me.” But we’re looking at the world and we can’t be still. It bombards us constantly with temptations that lure us away from obedience to our Father. Worldly people seem to be having so much fun, getting away with everything, breaking commandments and laughing about it. No one else seems to care what God says, so we run to Him and complain. “They got away with it,” we whine. “Why do I have to stick with my marriage, be honest on my taxes, keep relationships sexually pure? They’re not!” The Father answers, “It doesn’t matter what they do. They’re not going where we are going. I have a better plan for you. I’ve given you everything you need. Here are my promises, so be still and wait for me.”

Final Thought:  With our eyes on the world, we cannot be still. With our eyes on Jesus, we can wait patiently for Him.

Prayer: Father, I’m like an impatient toddler much of the time. I hate to wait, especially when I see other people getting what I want. But maybe they’re not going where we are going. It is worth it to wait patiently for your good plan. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
