Far Far Better | Love’s Greatness

Far Far Better | Love’s Greatness

For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. (v.10)

What does it mean “when the perfect comes”? What will pass away? John explains it in the book of Revelation:

“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no  more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.  He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away. And he who was seated on the throne said, ‘Behold, I am making all things new’” (Rev. 21:1-5).

Let’s join John this week in taking a closer look at the new heaven and new earth. We’ll find out why all spiritual gifts pass away, but love remains. What will we still need when we are in the presence of God?  Imagine waking up in a place where prophecies, tongues, and great knowledge has vanished. Love is all that’s left. Death is nothing to fear if we’ve given our lives to Jesus, and we long for His return. So, whether we die or He comes for us, love will carry us from this world into the next.

Final Thought:  If love is all you can take with you when you meet Jesus, how full is your luggage?

Prayer: Father, I don’t think enough about the new heaven and new earth you are preparing for those who love you. Help me use the time I have on this earth to make a difference in the next. I want my luggage to overflow. In Jesus name, Amen.
