Manly Men | Self-Rule

Manly Men | Self-Rule

So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31

Rance was determined to make his fortune by the time he was 40 so he could spend the rest of his life enjoying it. Steve took the opposite approach and spent every penny and every moment on fun. You only go around once, right? Brenda carefully calculated everything to make the best impression on the most people. As long as someone else thought she was smart/classy/a good Christian, then she must be on track. Gladys barely made ends meet with three kids and a deadbeat ex. She had no time for riches, fun, or impressing anyone, but she did have time for complaining, hating, and drinking alone.

Despite how different their lives appear, they all have the same problem—self-rule. Everyone begins life wanting to be our own bosses. But surrendering to Christ requires a loyalty switch. No longer do we make choices based on “What do I want?” In order to follow Christ, our motivation must be “What does God want?” God designed life so that when we seek His glory, we find our purpose. As long as Self continues to rule, we’ll never find it because Self is a demanding dictator that is never satisfied. God is the only Person worthy of being be our Life Manager. We will only mature and grow wise when we stop seeking our glory and start seeking His. When we live for His glory, everything we do delights Him. Even eating dinner!

Final Thought:  Manly men strategically plan every decision so that it brings the most glory and honor to God.

Prayer: Father, if I’m honest, I live to please myself even when it goes against what your word says. No wonder I stay stuck in spiritual infancy. I’m ready to change my focus to your glory instead of my selfish pleasure. Help me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
