Stand Firm/Love Well | Unshakeable | God’s Purpose

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I set you apart…”  Jeremiah 1:4-5

How did you get your job? Maybe a referral, maybe some schooling, training, or experience led to what you do now. Jeremiah got his prophet job as a direct assignment from God: no interviews, no negotiations, but a great retirement package. We are not Jeremiah, but this verse is a game-changer. It tells us that God claims direct responsibility for forming Jeremiah inside his mother’s body. Before Jeremiah had sprouted three fingers, God had already destined him for great things.

What if that was true for each of us? What if no one was an accident, no one was unwanted, no one was worthless? This verse leads us to believe that is true. If God chose Jeremiah as an unborn baby, who else has He chosen like that? Jeremiah did nothing to attract God’s attention, yet God decided to create him for His own pleasure and purpose. Colossians 1:16 says that is why God does everything He does—including creating you! It was God who formed you in the womb, God who called you to be His, and God who has a purpose for your life. In verse 7, God gives Jeremiah instructions on how to fulfill that purpose: “You must go wherever I send you and say whatever I tell you.” That’s His instruction for all of us, and our purpose is to obey it.

Final Thought:  You were specially created by God for His purpose and His pleasure. Are you embracing your purpose?

Prayer: Father, I’ve struggled with finding my purpose, but I’m realizing that you created me to walk closely with you and obey all you tell me to do. When I do, you’ll work through me to accomplish great things. I embrace that purpose. Amen.
