Stand Firm/Love Well | Unshakeable | Honor Him
You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies.” 1 Cor. 6:19-20
“My body, My choice!” We’ve heard this confident cry for a couple of decades now. It sounds wise to the uninformed and those who let mobs think for them. But is it wise? Is it correct? Do we have choices over everything pertaining to our bodies? Let’s see, do we choose to keep our hearts beating? Do we choose to breathe in and out, even while asleep? Do we keep our immune system fighting disease, our digestive system processing energy, and our circulatory system pumping blood to our vital organs? Should our feet have the option of kicking someone in the teeth because that’s what they chose to do?
Claiming autonomy over our bodies is as silly as an ant climbing on top of his anthill and declaring, “I own the world!” We are not our own, we belong to our Creator, the One who keeps all those systems functioning. We DO, however, have a choice about who we honor with our bodies: we either honor Jesus or we honor Satan. Those are the only two choices. When we’ve accepted God’s offer of salvation, we transferred ownership of our bodies to Him. Salvation means we return to Owner what is rightfully His. It’s His body, His choice. When we surrender our lives to the lordship of Jesus, He sends the Holy Spirit to live inside our spirits. We become living temples. And because Jesus bought us with His body, we must honor Him with ours.
Final Thought: Are you honoring the Lord who bought you with your body? (Romans 12:1-2)
Prayer: Lord, examine my heart and my life. What parts of my body are not fully surrendered to your will? I have no rights to withhold worship or obedience. I offer my body to you as a living sacrifice. May my choices please you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
