Stand Firm/Love Well | Unshakeable | What’s Coming

And since we are his children, we are his heirs… together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory…  Romans 8:17

No matter who asked him, the response was the same: a toothless grin, a twinkle in his eye, and the words, “I know what’s comin’!” He’d never missed a day as a janitor in the fourteen-story glass office complex. On that meager salary he had raised five children and then he and his wife began taking in foster children. No one knew how many frightened babies had come through his door to be met with a warm meal, and new toy, and a clean bed. Then his wife got cancer, his son was killed, and their apartment building got condemned. Life had been hard. Over the years, lawyers, physicians, and accountants had paused in their frantic rush to ask why he was always smiling. Without fail, he would answer: “I know what’s comin’!”

When we know what’s coming, we can face what’s here and now. Heaven is not a pie-in-the-sky fantasy of fat baby angels with harps. Heaven is God’s throne room and He has invited us to join Him there. However, not just anyone can enter. It’s invitation only. We must RSVP through the cross of Jesus. When we’ve bowed in surrender to His Son, God flings open heaven’s doors and considers us His own children. All that He’s given to Jesus is shared with us. The hurt and hardship of this world will be a distant memory when we step into God’s presence. We will see His glory and understand all mysteries. We will be home forever. So, despite the sorrows of life, we can joyfully face another day when we know what’s coming (2 Cor. 4:17).

Prayer: Lord, I need to make sure I’m on your guest list. I now surrender my life to your Son who died for me. He paid the price so that I could be forgiven and adopted by you. Thank you. Help me live in light of what’s coming. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
