How can they call on Him they have not believed in? And how can they hear without a preacher? Rom. 10:14
What about people who’ve never heard about Jesus? If Jesus is the only way to forgiveness and eternal life, then what about people who’ve never heard about Him? How do they have a chance? Does that one stump you too? We didn’t think up this question; Paul already wrote about it in the Bible. He goes on to say that God is in charge of His message and He wants to use us as His messengers. In God’s infinite wisdom, He knows how to maintain a balance we don’t understand. He knows how people will respond before they’re even told, but we don’t. The good news is that God does not require that we understand it all before we share His good news with people. Our job is to obey His instructions, not decide the outcome.
Evangelism is when one hungry person tells another where to find bread. We’ve been given the Bread of Life through no merit of our own and God expects us to be ready to share it. “But I don’t know how.” “I’m shy.” “I don’t know enough about the Bible!” “I’m not the preacher-type.” Excuses stack up while we hoard the bread we’ve found, ducking down inside our churches and remaining mute the rest of the week. Paul reminds us that someone told us the good news, and we need to be that for someone else. We preach all day long by our words, actions, and attitudes. What message are people hearing?
Final Thought: Do you realize that it is your personal responsibility to share the good news of Jesus with those in your life?
Prayer: Father, I’ve made a lot of excuses for not sharing my faith with people you’ve placed in my life. But your word reminds me that people can’t come into relationship with you if they don’t know about you. Give me courage. In Jesus’ name, Amen
