Written Nudges | Apply the Word

Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is like a wise person who builds a house on solid rock. Matt 7:24
“Look at my new Bible!” cried Ericka. “It cost a fortune, but it was on sale. Look…study notes, devotionals, maps, and cross-references, and this is a calfskin cover! It’ll look great in my collection.” Linda lifted a brow. “Your collection? You have a Bible collection?” Ericka laughed. “Yes, for years. I have a King James that’s two hundred years old!” Linda frowned. “That’s cool, I guess, but I don’t think the Bible is supposed to be a collector’s item. Do you actually read any of them? Obey what they say?” Ericka shrugged. “Well…” Linda shook her head. “Isn’t that kinda like collecting smoke alarms but never buying batteries?”
Some may think it admirable that Ericka had such a collection. Obtaining holy relics is often looked on with reverence, as though the objects themselves held spiritual power. The possessors may think that the mere presence of a Bible in the house will bring them good luck or protection, but it doesn’t. That’s voodoo, not Christianity. A book labeled “Holy Bible” is just a collection of paper and leather. The power is in the words themselves. They are communications from Almighty God who can speak directly to us through words penned thousands of years ago. When we read those words and put them into practice, they change our lives and our destinies. A Bible collection that is not read and applied might as well be the works of Shakespeare.
Final Thought: How many Bibles do you own? Are they collecting dust on the shelf or making changes in your life?
Prayer: Father, please forgive me for the way I have ignored your word. I have a dozen Bibles at my fingertips, but they just sit there while I stay busy with other things. I want to be a wise person, building my life on your foundation. I’ll start now. Amen.
